On Monday, December 22, we commemorated our 10th issue of the Combine community paper at Deep Dive in Bed Stuy. The newspaper is in the spirit of Black independent publishing, challenging anti-blackness, empire, fascism, and the horrible violence and ignorance of white hegemony and capitalism.
There is a great legacy of such a paradigm from David Walker to Ida B. Wells to the Panthers to Gil Noble and Like it Is. We are simply trying to continue the legacy in a time where there is an absence of critical thinking, accountability, and action.
We are all distracted by a seat at the table of leadership in both politics and entertainment (we have always had more people in the community than not who were down with whiteness)
In the spirit of Ella Bake, effective leadership should be from the bottom up, not from the top down.
